What you need to know About KW-IRS

The Kwara State Government in its efforts to increase its revenue base for financial independence and efficiency in governance, on June 22nd, 2015 signed the Kwara State Revenue Administration Law No.6 of 2015 (as amended).

The signing of the law birthed Kwara State Internal Revenue Service and the old Kwara Board of Internal Revenue became defunct.

KW-IRS as established by this Law, becomes the sole entity responsible for the effective and efficient administration of tax and other related matters on behalf of the Kwara State Government with the following mandates;

  • To maintain the integrity of tax laws.
  • Assist the State Government in attaining specific economic and social policies, systems, and targets.
  • Stimulate voluntary compliance.

Shade Omoniyi leads the management. She was appointed Executive Chairman on October 1st, 2019, and reappointed for another term on October 1st, 2023.

ISO RECERTIFICATION

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) was certified to ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System and ISO/IEC 22301: 2019 Business Continuity Management System in 2018. The agency secured its recertification in 2021, and 2024 respectively.

KW-IRS remains the only ISO-certified revenue agency in Nigeria.
