As part of efforts to promote accountability and professionalism in public service, the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) joined organizations across the world to commemorate the Internal Audit Awareness Month from 6th to 8th May, 2025.








In celebration of the awareness month, the Internal Audit Department of the Service organized a one-day training session and embarked on a department-to-department outreach to sensitize staff on the role and value of internal auditors, while correcting misconceptions surrounding the audit function in public institutions.
Giving the opening remarks at the training, the Head, Internal Audit, Yinka Usman explained that the International Internal Audit Awareness Month is observed globally to recognize the importance of internal auditing, showcase achievements, and foster collaboration with stakeholders. He emphasized the need for staff to appreciate the contributions of internal auditors and support ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and organizational growth.
The training featured paper presentations on key topics, including essentials of audit report writing, fraud prevention, detection, and control, as well as skills required of an auditor. Participants also engaged in a robust question-and-answer session.




On his part, the Director, Admin and Operations, Yusuf La-Kadri, commended the internal auditors for upholding professionalism and advised them to broaden their perspective by embracing self-development and continuous learning. He stressed that auditors must keep up with regulatory changes and possess working knowledge of all aspects of the organization to perform effectively.
Furthermore, the Director, Legal and Compliance, Shehu Mogaji, urged the auditors to always ensure that credible evidence is provided when handling fraud-related cases, thereby ensuring fair and just disciplinary processes.
There were also commendations, words of advice, and encouragement to the staff of Internal Audit department by the Directors, MDAs, and Income Tax, Omotayo Ayinla and Mohammed Usman respectively, and other speakers.
In her closing remarks, Titilayo Oginni appreciated the commitment and feedback of all staff who participated in the awareness program, noting that their contributions reflect the spirit of collaboration and excellence that KW-IRS upholds.
Attendees at the training include members of the top management team, selected Heads of Departments, and staff of the Internal Audit Department.
