The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), on Wednesday, 18th June 2025, hosted members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ilorin Branch to a one-day tax sensitization and engagement program themed “Strong Synergy with NBA in the drive of taxation in Kwara State” at the Ilorin Innovation Hub, G.R.A, Ilorin.

The program, according to the KW-IRS Executive Chairman, Shade Omoniyi, while delivering her opening remarks, is timely and pertinent to fostering a more mutual and productive working relationship with the legal community in the State. She described the sensitization program as one of the special series in the KW-IRS stakeholders engagement program that is geared towards improved service delivery, bridging communication gaps, and a forum where clarity is provided to major growing legal concerns that bothers directly on the association, taxation as an obligation and KW-IRS as the sole revenue agency in the State.

Shade Omoniyi, while also emphasizing the importance and urgency of aligning the perspectives of both legal practitioners in the State and the Service, acknowledged their various contributions to the economic stability of the State over the past years. In her remarks, she reiterated the Service commitment to economic viability, improved IGR drive with full adoption of automation and introduction of modern-day technology that will assist transparency, prudence, and accountability in revenue administration.



The sensitization program featured a series of paper presentations from KW-IRS executives, focusing on ethical work relations between KW-IRS and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA); Business ethics of taxation by taxpayers, tradition and legal basis of tax assessment and payment.


The program also analyzed the legal framework of taxation in Nigeria, and the need for the legal practitioner’s umbrella body in the State to encourage ethical working relationships with KW-IRS, among other discussions.
The session featured a questions and answers sessions, where participants sought clarity on various tax-related matters as they relate to tax laws and policies.

The Director, Income Tax, KW-IRS, Mohammed Usman, while delivering his closing remarks, appreciated members of the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA) for their active participation and insightful contributions during the program. He emphasized the critical role of legal professionals in shaping a tax-compliant society through their clarity in the interpretation and advocacy of tax laws.


Usman assured continued partnership with the NBA as a means to further deepen public awareness of legal tax obligations. He also expressed KW-IRS readiness for more collaborative efforts with professional bodies to enhance revenue growth, accountability, and promotion of transparency in tax administration in the State.

The event had in attendance members of the KW-IRS top management team, selected Heads of Departments, and representatives from the Service.
